John H. (Hiram ?) WILLIAMS

John H. WILLIAMS was born ca.1798 and married in Williamson Co., TN to Miss Mahala SINGLETARY on 28-March-1821.   Mahala was born ca. 1805.  There is a record of a Luther SINGLETARY in the 1830 Davidson Co., TN Federal Census.  Luther may be related to Mahala.  Luther was born on 28-Oct-1796 in Sutton Co., MA and was a son of Amos SINGLETARY.  A recent book of the marriage records of Williamson Co., TN indicate that John H. & Mahala were not married until 28-March-1823.  I believe this new information to be incorrect as it would conflict with the tombstone information and
the migration date of 1824 for this family to Yazoo, MS.

The first child of John H. & Mahala WILLIAMS was John Samuel WILLIAMS.  Information on his tombstone in DeSoto Parish, LA indicate that he was born on 31-Dec-1822 in TN and that he
grew up in Yazoo, MS and died 10-Dec-1909 in
DeSoto Parish, LA and was burried in the Grove Hill Cemetery adjacent to the Twin-Churches (Baptist & Methodist) south of
Mansfield, DeSoto Parish, LA.

The John H. WILLIAMS family migrated to Yazoo, MS ca. 1824.  He is shown as recording a deed in 1824 in Deed Book E,
page 25 and had 7 other land transactions before his
last one in 1841.  This was shown in Book K, page 467.

The first two children of John H. & Mahala were born in TN
and they were :
1) a boy, John Samuel – b. 1822 / m#1-Mary A. Fletcher, and
2) a girl, Lou or Louise - b. 1823 / m. Tom Pope
The other seven children were born in either Yazoo Co., MS or DeSoto Parish, LA.  Those other children were :
3) Robert T. / m. Judith M. FLETCHER,
4) George N. / m. Mary Ann SIKES,
5) Daniel H.,
6) James,
7) Mary A.,
8) Mary P., and
9) Louisa Tennessee.

The John H. WILLIAMS family migrated to DeSoto Parish, LA about 1841, and settled south east of Mansfield in the Dolet Hills area.  This was within a few miles of the Baptist Church & Grove Hill Cemetery.  Their oldest son, John Samuel married first to
Mary Aldine FLETCHER on 27-Dec.-1849 in DeSoto Parish.
She was born in Alabama on 21-July-1827. They had 13 children & all were born in DeSoto Parish, LA :
1) Eva / m. J. C. Jenkins,
2) Lou / m. John Hamilton,
3) Sally / m. Bob Smith,
4) Hiram, b. 4-Nov-1850 / m. Mary D. Pyles,
5) William West, b. 9-Mar-1853 / m. Beatrice Howell,
6) Andrew Jackson “Lum”, b. 10-April-1855 / m. Sakie Howell,

13) Minnie, b. 11-Jan-1872.

John  H. & Mahala WILLIAMS migrated to Titus Co., TX shortly after the marriage of John S. to Mary FLETCHER, or about 1849 or 1850.  He is shown on the Texas Federal Slave Index of 1850 for Titus Co., TX.  John H. died in 1853 in Titus Co., TX and his succession papers were filed in Louisiana and copies are on file at the Genealogical Archives at the Shreveport City Library.

John S. married a second time, two years after the death of Mary Fletcher WILLIAMS, to Miss Catherine Rebecca GOLDSBY on 17-Jan-1884.  Rebecca was born in DeSoto Parish and was a dau. of Terrell Thomas & Frances Elizabeth (WYNNE) GOLDSBY.  They had five children :
1) Dewitt, b. 15-Dec-1884 / m. Sarah Elizabeth Evans,
2) Exater E., b. 1886,

William Paul SWEARINGEN on 27-May-1939 and I,
William Richard SWEARINGEN, b. 26-July-1941,
am their eldest of three boys.
